Ronald Reagan's Legacy

What is the proper legacy of Ronald Reagan and his contribution to American history?
Jamie Thody

One of the things that Ronald Reagan did while in office was end the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Reagan had different ideas about the Cold War than most people did. He wanted to end the war in a peaceful way. It has been said by Michael Beschloss,a presidential historian, that if Reagan hadn't been elected president in the eighties then the Cold War might not have ended when it did and it could have turned out much worse for the United States.
Ronald Reagan had several qualities that made him a great president who will be remembered long after his death. He was a great leader and he was able to connect with the people in the counry well which made him very well liked. He made the people in America feel comfortable and safe. He was able to communicate well with people and get his ideas across. He had the presonality of a leader. One thing that made him a great leader was that he follwed through with the things that he said he would do and he believed in what he said and did.
Reagan created a lot of change during his presidency. He changed how people in the country saw conservatism. Before him people saw conservatives as people who didn't want change because they respected the old ways of things. After Reagan conservatives were seen in a very different way. He changed the government. he wanted a smaller government, a strong United States Army and lower taxes.

1. What are the problems America faces?
America faces one of the longest inflations in national history. The people who work don't get a fair reward because of the tax system. The tax system is unfair for working people.

He is making a strong point but using humor to make it not seem offensive but still effective.

4. What does this reveal about Regan? (Consider the saying: "Wit has truth in it.")
It shows that he has strong oppinions and isn't afraid of them being heard. He says that "for many years I was a democrate" with wit. The reason that it is witty is because he thinks that the democrates are to blame and saying that he is to blame because he used to be one is true.

5. What policy decisions might Reagan make according to this?
He would have economic, military and strategic strength to keep peace in the country. He would negotiate with the Soviet Union and discuss an agreement that would leed to peace.

6. How did this event effect Reagan's role with the American public?
He would have to be more cautious while he is around the public in case of another murder attempt. Some people might be worried about the president while others could be upset that people around him had become injured.

The audience is a group of religious people.

The audience is probably countries other than America because of the way that they talk about America.

For local history I'm going to type up some of the Civil War letters that Allie got from her grandmother.
